EmpireA Disturbing Look at a Possible Future…

The American Empire has grown too fast, and the fault lines at home are stressed to the breaking point. The war of words between Right and Left has collapsed into a shooting war, though most people just want to be left alone.

The battle rages between the high-technology weapons on one side, and militia foot-soldiers on the other, devastating the cities, and overrunning the countryside. But the vast majority, who only want the killing to stop and the nation to return to more peaceful days, have technology, weapons and strategic geniuses of their own.

When the American dream shatters into violence, who can hold the people and the government together? And which side will you be on?

Orson Scott Card is a master storyteller, who has earned millions of fans and reams of praise for his previous science fiction and fantasy novels. Now he steps a little closer to the present day with this chilling look at a near future scenario of a new American Civil War.

The novel debuted as a New York Times best-seller in December 2006 and offers a powerful introduction to the Empire universe, created by Chair Entertainment Group. Chair is now simultaneously developing a feature film, and plans for a future comic book series and video game, all inspired by that same universe. Additional information to be released at a later date.

About Orson Scott Card:

Writer Orson Scott Card has been a prolific novelist for nearly thirty years. He first achieved widespread acclaim in 1985 with Ender’s Game, a bestselling science fiction novel that predicted with uncanny accuracy the emergence of the Internet and weblogs in the 21st century. The success of Ender’s Game and its sequel, Speaker for the Dead, earned Card both the prestigious Nebula and Hugo awards, and has spawned a half-dozen more books in the popular series.

In addition to his science-fiction work, Card has showcased a remarkable versatility as a writer, creating the fantasy series The Tales of Alvin Maker and the storyline for the Xbox and PC video game, Advent Rising. In 2005, Card accepted an invitation from Marvel Comics to write Ultimate Iron Man, a five-part series revealing the childhood origin of the famed hero.

A lifelong proponent of teaching writing skills, Card has accepted a permanent appointment as resident professor at Southern Virginia University, where he divides his time between writing and teaching.
